Encouraging Bible Verses for Labor and Delivery
Before I delivered all three of our children, I spent time studying God’s promises in the Bible. I desired a safe delivery for my baby, and I knew God’s word would comfort my spirit when I experienced the pain of childbirth.
For each delivery, I found it helpful to meditate on bible verses for labor and delivery. So I’ve collected 17 of my favorite scriptures and put them together for you, mama. You’ll also find a labor and delivery prayer at the end of this post. You can pray the guided prayer as you wait and prepare or have your spouse or family member pray it while you are in labor.
I encourage you to put these verses on your phone, write them on notecards around your house, and speak them out loud.
Be sure to download the free 4 x 6 scripture cards for these verses at the end of this post!
Instead of trusting ourselves, rest knowing we serve a God who never sleeps nor slumbers and always watches over His children.

Lastly, here is a labor and delivery prayer you can use as you prepare for birth, during birth, or afterward in the postpartum phase.
God, we thank you for the gift of life. How beautiful it is when you knit us together wonderfully in our mother’s wombs. I stand amazed at Your Creation, and I praise You for this precious gift You’ve given me. Father, You know all of our days before we even live one. Thank You that as I wait for our baby to come, I can remain confident knowing Your hand is on their little life even before they take their first breath.
God, as I prepare for labor and delivery, I ask that you’d lead me beside peaceful streams. Keep my eyes fixed on you. When I need renewed strength, help me to rest in YOU. For you alone are my strength.
Your word says that you will carry me, save me, and hold me up with your righteous right hand. I trust in you, Lord, to deliver this baby in your perfect timing. As I place my trust in you, keep my mind in perfect peace.
When I feel pain and want to give up, Lord be my comfort. I know You never sleep nor slumber, and You will safely bring our baby into this world. I praise you for this precious gift in my belly, and I wait expectantly for Your promises to be fulfilled. In Jesus Mighty Name, I pray, Amen.
