DIY Tangled Inspired Paper Lanterns
Do you have a Tangled fan in your family? My kids both love the Tangled movie and the Tangled series on Disney Junior. Last week on Instagram, I shared these Rapunzel hand drawn lanterns my daughter made.

It was a rainy Friday and she was moaning “What can we do!?” I was tired and at a loss, but after we put on our Disney Princess CD I was inspired. “Let’s make Tangled inspired paper lanterns to fly in the sky.”
My daughter was instantly intrigued. This is a super easy craft and your young kids will love it!
After we finished the craft, we even set up a Rapunzel pretend play camp where we roasted marshmallows and sang Tangled songs with our festive lanterns.

Supplies you need to create your own DIY paper lanterns:
Construction paper
Toilet paper rolls
Scissors
Glue
Crayons
First, we put paper around the toilet paper roll. We measured the construction paper and cut it to fit to size. As you can see my daughter’s paper was a little jagged. But that’s part of the fun! Don’t worry if it’s not perfect.
On some of the rolls we decided to add extra decorations. We drew the Rapunzel sun and swirls before we glued it on to the toilet paper roll. Remember this will be the inside of your lantern so you won’t see all the decorations.
Next it’s time to make the outside of the lantern. Measure another piece of paper to fit around your toilet paper roll.
Then fold it in half. Cut from the folded side. Leave about an inch edge on the paper (see below). I made marks on my daughter’s paper so she knew exactly where to cut.
After you unfold the paper you can secure the two ends to make the lantern (see photo below). Now it’s time to add the outer paper on to the toilet paper roll. You can either use a stapler to secure the paper or glue. We did both and it worked well.
My daughter also had an idea to add one of our electric tea lights to the lantern to make it glow.
We think our Tangled inspired paper lanterns turned out super cute. You can make these whatever theme you’d like! It’s a great craft for young kids to enjoy.
