Powerful Morning Prayer for Family

A morning prayer for family. Start your day with God’s blessings!

Having a baby changes everything! After our first child arrived, I found myself with a whole new set of things to worry about.

Is she warm enough?
Will she nap today?
Will we have enough money for me to take this year off and stay at home?

I thought time would lessen the fears. But as the years passed, I found my list of worries only grew longer.

Is she watching too much TV?
Am I teaching her enough?
Will she come to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior?

Motherhood taught me that I don’t have as much control as we’d like (HA!). And time alone will not take away my worries.

Prayer is the answer. Prayer is one of the greatest weapons we wield as Christians.

If we want the atmosphere to shift and our fears to lessen, we need to pray and declare the promises of God over ourselves and our children. Prayer takes the focus off what is (or isn’t) happening in our lives and allows us to fix our thoughts on who God is and what He can do.

Prayer allows us to focus less on our feelings or what we see with our physical eyes and instead on what God says about us and our families.

One of my favorite ways to pray is to pray the Scriptures. That’s why I chose three of my favorite Scriptures to incorporate into a morning prayer for my family.

You can use the Scriptures and the prayer as written or pray as the Holy Spirit leads you.

A Morning Prayer for Your Family

One of my favorite blessings in Scripture comes from Numbers 6:24-26 (NKJV).

‘May the Lord bless you
and protect you.
May the Lord smile on you
and be gracious to you.
May the Lord show you his favor
and give you his peace.’

I also love the reminder of how detail-oriented God is in Psalm 139:13-16 (NKJV).

For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.

He knows us so well, and we are precious in His sight! Lastly, I love Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV):

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

God is intentional and He has great purposes for us. If you have time I encourage you to go to the scripture and read these verses out loud over your family. If you’re short on time you can use the prayer I wrote incorporating these verses.

Here is the morning prayer for your family:

Lord, thank you for this day. May we rejoice and be glad in it. We can rejoice because we serve an awesome God. And yet You are mindful of us! We praise you because we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank you for the marvelous work you started in us. God before the beginning of time you created good works for us to complete. You created us with a purpose. You saw us before we were born, and Your plan for each one of us is good.

God, as we go about our day, may you bless everything we put our hands to. May you protect us and bring us home safely. May you smile on us and be gracious toward us. Lord, show us your favor and give us the peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, we pray, Amen!
