Pray Ephesians 1 Over Your Family – Pray God’s Word!

Have you ever used a Bible reading plan? At the beginning of the year, I started one to keep my quiet time focused and organized. I’ve been really enjoying it! When I opened my Bible last week, the passage for the day was Ephesians 1. We’ve recently read through the book Ephesians as a family, so I found myself hesitating. Should I skip this? I feel like I just read it.

It felt redundant to reread it, but part of me didn’t feel right about filling in the bubble and marking Ephesians 1 as complete. So I flipped open my Bible to Ephesians, and within a few verses, I found myself boldly praying Ephesians for my family.

How could I have forgotten that God’s word is alive and active? It’s incredible how you can reread the same scripture and find something new every time. God is so good that way! I’m happy I didn’t skip this passage because God gave me more insight, and I want to share what I learned with you.

Have you ever prayed the scriptures as you read?

My Nona first suggested praying the scriptures to me. She told me she’d read a part of the Bible and then pause and personalize it in prayer.

For example, we read in Ephesians 1:3, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ (NKJV).

Then we can pray, “Lord, thank you for blessing me with EVERY spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms.”

Praying the scriptures is a powerful way to speak truth over your life and your family’s life.

So today, I want to pray Ephesians 1 with you. Follow my prompt below for prayer points or read Ephesians 1 and make it your own. Either way, use God’s active word to speak powerful blessings over your family.

Praying Ephesians 1 For Your Family

God, we praise you and thank you right now for blessing us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. Even before you made the world, you loved us and chose us to be holy and without fault in your eyes. God, we thank you for that incredible gift! We praise You for adopting us into Your family and bringing us to You through Your son Jesus.

God, we thank You that it gave You great pleasure to unite us with Christ. And we praise you for the glorious grace you poured out on us. You are so rich in kindness and mercy. Thank You for purchasing our freedom with the blood of Your Son and forgiving all our sins. You have showered us with Your lovingkindness and given us wisdom and understanding. We praise You for sealing us with the Holy Spirit of promise. How wonderful that the Spirit is a guarantee of our inheritance! You are always faithful to keep Your promises.

God, we thank You for our children and pray for them just like Paul did in Ephesians. We ask God because You are such an awesome Father, to give our families spiritual wisdom and insight so we can grow in our knowledge of You. I pray that our hearts will be flooded with light. I pray that our children’s hearts will be flooded with light so they can understand the confident hope You have given them. They are Your holy people. They are Your rich and glorious inheritance. May they know how much You love them.

Lord, I also pray that we may understand the incredible greatness of your power for us who believe. I pray that our kids will understand that You move on their behalf, and may they intimately know Your immeasurable, unlimited, and surpassing power. The same mighty power that raised Jesus from the dead and seated him in the place of honor in the heavenly realms still moves on our behalf today.

God, thank you for seating Jesus far above any ruler, authority, or power. He is the name above every name. He is seated above every sickness, infliction, disease, depression, or addiction. And I thank you that we are seated with Jesus, so we are also far above any temptation, disease, or sickness that may come at us. May our children understand the incredible greatness of Your power that comes with being part of Your family God. Thank you for giving Christ all authority and making Him the head over all things. God, I thank you that we are made full and complete in Christ. May our children understand that precious gift. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, we pray, Amen.
