Benefits of Puzzles & Learning

This post has been sponsored by HABA USA. Although I received a review product free of charge, all opinions expressed are 100% my own.

As you may know we try to limit television exposure and overall electronic use in our home. It can be difficult as I work from home on the computer, but it is something we are passionate about. We love finding quality wooden toys that promote learning and creativity without using batteries. We are ditching electronics for puzzles. Let me explain.

3 benefits of toddlers playing with puzzles. Children learn through play and it is so important to take time to play!

Benefits of Puzzles in Learning:

  • Non-electronic toys are better! A 2010 study in the Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology found lower quality mother-child play with electronic versus non-electronic toys. Mothers were also significantly less responsive to toddlers when using electronic toys.

These are only a few of the reasons we try to find toys that promote play without overstimulation. I’m not saying I never let my daughter use my cellphone, but I definitely try to limit her exposure to electronics. This brings us to HABA USA. Our daughter has been loving their toys since birth. Here are a few reasons we have fallen in love with HABA:

  • The toys are well designed and hold our daughter’s interest. We’ve found the toys provide enough stimulation without using any batteries.
  • I love the company’s mission and recent Take Time to Play campaign. They strive to create toys that bring together families and promote imaginative play. This was something I enjoyed as a child. I want our children to experience the same imaginative and creative play I did. This is harder to do in today’s world with the advancements of technology.
  • Their toys are safe. The toys fulfill all European and American regulations when it comes to materials and processing. This allows for quality toys that you can feel good about.

We recently played with the happy meadow farm clutching puzzle and the animal counting matching game. Our daughter enjoyed playing with both as she has become more interested in counting. She has always loved puzzles and it’s a great activity to do together. Both toys were made out of quality wood and were educational yet fun at the same time. Educational games or puzzles don’t have to be boring. The bright colors and fun design are perfect for toddlers. I think the counting matching game will be a great learning tool as she grows older. For now, she likes the puzzle aspect of it and matching the pieces with the cards as well as identifying the animals.
