DIY Photo Lantern

I have been getting back into crafting since our baby girl’s birthday celebration is coming up and I wanted to make affordable unique decorations. You can also use this idea for DIY gifts. What a unique and special gift to give your mom on Mother’s day! I can’t take all the credit for this DIY photo lantern because my mom gave me the inspiration. I had these lanterns from our wedding and I wanted to repurpose them. I am thinking about spray painting the lantern a darker color to add a dramatic touch and help the photographs stand out. But for now I love how it turned out. It also looks awesome with a tealight candle inside!

The best part about this craft is – it’s easy! All you have to do is find a decorative lantern with glass panels. The glass panels in the lantern I used were very easy to remove. The lantern I used also had a small door. The door made it easy to remove the panels and place the pictures on the inside.

Next, I chose my favorite photographs of Izzy and printed them out on matte photo paper. I had to find pictures that were vertical as my lantern had tall and skinny panels. You may want to consider the size of your panels before your choose the photographs. Then I measured the length of the glass panels and printed the photographs accordingly. Next I used the glass panel as a pattern to trace the picture and cut it out to size.

I decided to put the photos in front of the glass panels and use the panels behind the picture to make it sturdy and protect it from the tea light candle.

I love that you can easily change the photographs throughout the years and it is truly a unique decoration for your house or party. I can’t wait to search for more lanterns to create different looks.
