Happy New Year – Greater Things Ahead
Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s that time of year again. A time of new beginnings, fresh starts, and new resolutions. I’m not sure why, but I’ve never been a big fan of New Years resolutions. I think partly because they don’t work. However, there is something exciting about a fresh start and new things ahead. I think that is why we often create goals and dreams for the year to come. But they almost always fail. Why does this happen? Maybe because they are man made? Whatever the reason, the Bible states in Joshua 23:14 – “You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.”
So this year instead of making my own goals, dreams, promises, etc. I want to see what God has promised for my life. For I know He gives promises that will never fail.
I also wanted to see what the Bible had to say about the number 14. Numbers have significance in the Bible. For example, 3 represents perfect completion or divine perfection and 7 represents spiritual perfection or fullness & completion. So after doing a little research I found that 14 represents a double measure of spiritual perfection or completion (2 x 7 = 14). Additionally, I read from here that –
The fourteenth day of the first month is the Passover, when God delivered the firstborn of Israel from death. Some 430 years earlier, on the night of the 14th day of the first month, God made two covenant promises to Abraham — one of the physical seed, Isaac, and his descendants, and one of the spiritual seed, Jesus Christ, and the sons of God who would come through Him, who would shine like the stars of heaven (Matthew 13:43). On the day portion of the 14th, God confirmed the promises with a special covenant sacrifice.
After I read this I was very excited for the year to come. I can’t wait to see what God is going to bring to completion in 2014. What promises has God given you that you haven’t seen fulfilled yet? This may be the year! I know there are greater things ahead.

Happy New Year! I like what you said about seeing what God has planned rather than making our own goals and dreams.
Last year for new year’s I read a beautiful quote in my spiritual reading that I should reflect on again this year… thought I’d share it with you too 🙂
“I think of this new year as a white page given to me by Your Father, on which He will write day by day, whatever His divine good pleasure has planned. I shall now write at the top of this page, with complete confidence: Domine, fac de me sicut vis, Lord, do with me what you will, and at the bottom I already write my Amen to all the proposals of Your divine will. Yes Lord, yes to all the joys, the sorrows, the graces, the hardships prepared for me, which You will reveal to me day by day.”
What a beautiful quote! Thanks for sharing Katie and Happy New Year 🙂
