Finding Peace As a New Mom

I recently purchased a chronological Bible and I love it.  The Bible lifts my spirit and helps me become a better wife and mother!  Today I read Matthew 6:31-34.  Jesus states:

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.

But Seek Ye First the Kingdom of Heaven - Inspirational Scripture

I know this is a popular passage of scripture and I’ve read it multiple times, but God showed me something new today.  Having a baby changes everything!  I’ve found myself worrying about a whole new set of things.  To name a few…..”Is she getting enough to eat?”, “Will she nap today?”, “Will we have enough money for me to take this year off and stay at home?” and the list goes on.  I often rush around when she takes a nap hoping to get everything checked off my to do list.  I may or may not get around to reading my Bible.  However, God reminded me in this passage that our heavenly Father knows what we need.  He knows we need wisdom, comfort, food, money, etc.  So why do we worry about these things if the creator of Heaven & Earth is telling us “I know, I understand, I will provide.

Today I was reminded that we must seek his kingdom FIRST.  If we seek God first, then all these other things will fall in to place.  It’s not always easy, but we must give the worry, fear, and burdens to Jesus.  Why do we carry around these things if he tells us we don’t need to?  Besides when I seek his kingdom and righteousness, I am filled with unspeakable joy and never-ending hope!  Why wouldn’t I want to feel those things every day?

  1. Beautiful truth here – thank you! I know that I can lose focus and that’s usually when I start to worry about things. When we stop and think if things we are doing and things we are worrying about have eternal consequence, it helps! Being a godly woman, wife, mother and homemaker are my main goals – and that starts first with God! Everything else He will take care of and help me. Thank you for this truth today.

  2. Great insight! I still have struggle with worry and doubt sometimes, but just recently I was reading in Matthew how the disciples were concerned about being out on a boat and not having bread to eat. Understandable except that Jesus had JUST fed the 4000 with just a few loaves and fish not 24 hours earlier. It’s funny to me that God can provide for our needs and we can see him work again and again, and still we struggle with doubt. The only way I know to deal with these thoughts is to simply keep my mind on Jesus. Thanks for this reminder!!!
